CLIMB SONORA

Sonora's First Bouldering Gym

A community climbing space in the heart of the Sierra foothills

The Vision

Climb Sonora is more than a website — it's the seed of something bigger. We're working to open the first dedicated bouldering gym in Tuolumne County, creating a year-round home for climbers of all levels in a region that's surrounded by world-class outdoor climbing but has never had an indoor facility.

Our vision is a welcoming, community-driven space where experienced climbers can train during the off-season, new climbers can learn the fundamentals, and the broader community can gather around a shared love of movement and the outdoors.

We're currently in the planning phase — researching locations, building a business plan, and most importantly, gauging community interest. Your input matters.

Why Sonora?

No Gym Within 60+ Miles

The nearest climbing gym is over an hour away. Local climbers deserve a place to train without the long drive.

Yosemite Gateway Community

Sonora is the western gateway to Yosemite and the High Sierra. Climbers already live here and pass through constantly.

Growing Outdoor Recreation Economy

Tuolumne County's economy increasingly depends on outdoor recreation. A gym adds to the region's appeal for residents and visitors.

Active Youth & Families

There's strong demand for youth activities and family-friendly recreation. Climbing is one of the fastest-growing youth sports.

Year-Round Training

When smoke season, snow, or heat shuts down outdoor crags, a gym provides a consistent place to climb and train.

Community Hub Potential

More than a gym — a gathering place for the climbing community with events, clinics, and programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

We're currently in the planning and community research phase. We don't have a confirmed opening date yet, but we're working toward securing a location and building out a business plan. Sign up for our newsletter to stay updated on milestones.

We're exploring locations in and around downtown Sonora. Our goal is to find a space that's accessible, has adequate ceiling height for bouldering walls, and is central to the community.

Our primary focus is bouldering — it requires less overhead space and infrastructure, making it more feasible for a first facility. We may explore top-rope or lead walls in the future depending on the space and demand.

The biggest thing you can do right now is fill out our community survey and sign up as a founding member. Sharing the word with fellow climbers in the area also helps us demonstrate demand. We'll announce volunteer and investment opportunities as we progress.

We plan to offer both monthly memberships and day passes to keep the gym accessible. Founding members who sign up early will receive discounted rates when we open. Specific pricing will be announced closer to launch.

We envision a community hub — fitness and training areas, a hangboard station, yoga space, and a gathering area. We also plan to host clinics, youth programs, and community events to grow climbing in the region.
